Make Over Your WardrobeFebruary 18th, 2014 by David
Brooches – People hone in on details on garments rather than the actual piece of clothing, so adding a little feature to a top instantly transform it. Think pearl and diamante brooches on the top right or left of a black top or tee. On white tops, go for more statement colours like aqua brooches or apricot stoned jewellery. This provides a classic stylish twist to an otherwise plain garment.
Add a different texture – If you are
a whizz with a sewing machine, add features to tops and cardigans, like pearl or gold buttons to a cashmere cardigan, or strips of lace to a classic top – add texture to areas that you’d like to draw attention to, such as the bottom of a fitted top, to accentuate your waist.
Statement pieces – Statement jewellery adds a whole new dimension to any dress or top. Strapless tops look great with chunky necklaces, and high necked, armless dresses are made more eye-catching with an elegant array of bracelets. Statement earrings look great with turtle necks and tube tops, whereas thin strapped
tops are best with high-impact wrist accessories. A string of pearls over a black top can go so far as re-inventing it!
Scarves – Building up a collection of classic and colourful scarves will help to dress up any look with a Parisian neck tie or loose fitting splash of colour to a coat or black outfit. Wear simple light scarves during summertime to add dimension to a fitted dress, to dress up jeans, or even to add sophistication to beachwear! Thicker darker colours will accessorise winter looks and keep your neck warm too! A black coat is transformed with a red or berry coloured neck tie, and a simply jumper is suddenly stylish with a scarf to feminise it.
Belts – From thick to subtle, a belt can flatter, enhance and add style to an outfit. If you have a feminine hourglass shape or are naturally a proud owner of a tiny nipped in waist, a belt can accentuate this. Try leather belts with all black outfits or shop around for colours and textures that will accompany your jeans and dresses with a simply accent.
Tailoring – Getting your dresses, shirts, trousers and coats tailored to meet your exact dimensions will make a garment appear a lot more expensive and sometimes brand-new! Personalising your clothes to make them look as if they were made for you shows off your shape to its full potential and draws attention to your very best bits!
Statement make-up! A red lip can completely transform a look. A simple black dress can go from drab to chic in one slick of a lipstick! Statement make-up looks suit classic, well-tailored outfits, and can even freshen up tired looking garments. Invest in a perfect-for-you red lipstick to add instant glamour and confidence before you walk out the door! Everyone will be looking at your lips.
